A Florida woman, Sarah Wright, is in jail after allegedly hitting a 16-year-old boy with her truck while he was crossing the street on his scooter and then fleeing the scene, according to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office. After the crash, Wright reportedly tried to cover her license plate with tape and paper before driving away.

Deputies said the boy was on his way home from school when Wright, 37, hit him with her Chevrolet Silverado. Witnesses reported that after hitting the teen, Wright briefly got out of the truck to check on him before attempting to hide her license plate.
Despite her attempt to flee, deputies were able to quickly identify Wright’s vehicle using witness statements, a neighborhood Ring camera, and technology.
One witness saw part of her license plate before she covered it, and the victim provided a description of the truck. Deputies used license plate reader cameras to locate the vehicle “within minutes.”
Later that evening, Flagler County deputies received reports of a reckless driver on Interstate 95. The truck was seen weaving through traffic and exiting the highway erratically.
Deputies stopped the vehicle at a gas station and identified Wright as the driver. She appeared distraught and was crying, according to the report.
Authorities discovered that Wright’s driver’s license had been suspended earlier in December for failing to pay a traffic ticket. She was arrested and taken to the Flagler County Jail for driving on a suspended license.
Volusia County deputies added a charge of leaving the scene of a crash with injuries. Records show Wright has been convicted three previous times for driving with a suspended license. She has since posted a $7,000 bond.
The teen suffered a serious cut to the back of his head but was able to walk away from the scene. Deputies credited witnesses, surveillance footage, and technology for the swift identification and arrest of Wright.
