The incident claimed the life of 42-year-old Brandy Nicole Olson, leaving the Lumberton community reeling.
On Monday, December 23, 2024, 18-year-old Brian Campbell surrendered to the Lumberton Police Department. “Brian Campbell came to the Lumberton Police Department and turned himself in,” a spokesperson confirmed to PEOPLE on Tuesday, December 24.
He is now being held at the Robeson County Detention Center under a $1,000,000 bond. Campbell faces charges of accessory after the fact.
Meanwhile, 17-year-old Ezekiel Burden, the second suspect, remains on the run. Burden is charged with first-degree murder, discharging a firearm within an enclosure to incite fear, and going armed to the terror of the public, according to authorities.
A Targeted Incident Ends in Tragedy
The deadly shooting occurred on Friday, December 20, at the Lumberton Super Walmart. Police were called to the scene at approximately 3:45 p.m., following reports of gunfire near the Woodforest Bank inside the store.
When officers arrived, they found Olson suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite efforts from bystanders and emergency responders, she succumbed to her injuries after being transported to UNC Health Southeastern.
Investigators believe the shooting was an isolated incident, targeting two individuals known to the suspects who were standing near the bank. Tragically, Olson, a bystander, was not the intended target, according to *WMBF News*.
