Marvin Ernesto Funez-Martinez was sentenced for the murder of Marco Alexander Pulido-Castro.
In October 2023, police were called to a home in White Plains, Maryland, because of a reported stabbing. They found Pulido-Castro dead in the trunk of a car.
Investigators found out that Funez-Martinez had hired Pulido-Castro to drive him and two other people to a nightclub in Washington, D.C. After the club, Pulido-Castro drove them back.
On the way back, Pulido-Castro stopped at a gas station and asked Funez-Martinez for more money for gas. This made Funez-Martinez angry, and they had a small argument.
When they got back to Funez-Martinez’s house, Pulido-Castro’s car was overheating, so he stayed outside while the others went inside.
Funez-Martinez went inside, got a larger knife from the kitchen, and went back outside. While Pulido-Castro was checking his car, Funez-Martinez started stabbing him repeatedly. Pulido-Castro tried to run away, but Funez-Martinez chased him and kept stabbing him. He stabbed him 59 times and knocked out several of his teeth. After the stabbing, Funez-Martinez dragged the body to the car and put it in the trunk.
Funez-Martinez ran away, but witnesses helped police find him soon after. He had cuts on his hands covered in the victim’s blood. He later admitted to the murder.
During the sentencing, the prosecutor emphasized how a small argument led to such a brutal attack.
She said it was the most brutal murder she had ever seen and that Pulido-Castro was killed simply for doing his job.
