What Happened
The shooting occurred around 8:55 p.m. on Tuesday, December 24. Police said Kevin Ward, Luster’s 26-year-old son, was visiting for the holidays with his fiancée.
According to legal documents obtained by The Sun Herald, Luster believed his wife was having an affair and accused his son and his son’s fiancée of withholding information about it.
During the argument, Luster allegedly turned to Ward’s fiancée and asked, “Do you wanna get shot?” Ward, trying to diffuse the situation, told his fiancée to fetch a knife and instructed her to call 911 if things escalated between him and his father.
As the fiancée started to leave, she heard Ward trying to calm his father down. “You’re not going to shoot her,” Ward said. Luster allegedly replied, “You want to get shot instead?” before shooting Ward in the forehead.
Ward was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigation Ongoing
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office has stated that the investigation is ongoing. It’s unclear whether Luster has a lawyer to represent him or comment on his behalf.
