A 10-year run from justice came to an end for a Kentucky man when he was arrested after disembarking from a cruise ship in Miami.
Dominic Weaver, 47, who allegedly avoided paying child support for over a decade, now faces serious legal consequences... Continue reading here ▶
Authorities say Weaver owes between $114,000 and $120,000 in unpaid child support, making his case one of the most “egregious” ever handled by Jefferson County Attorney Mike O’Connell.
“He has paid not one cent,” O’Connell told WDRB, describing how Weaver fled the jurisdiction to avoid his financial responsibilities.
Detectives from Jefferson County’s Child Support Division, with the help of Miami police, tracked Weaver to the cruise ship. His arrest on Florida soil marked an ironic end to what was likely a luxurious holiday vacation.
A History of Avoidance
Weaver has four active child support cases against him, and O’Connell revealed that two more felony indictments are imminent. His name was already on the radar back in 2019 when he was included on a list of parents skipping out on child support payments. At that time, he owed over $91,000. By 2021, his debt had climbed to more than $99,000.
Despite being convicted of flagrant nonsupport in 2019 and sentenced to five years of probation, Weaver continued to dodge his obligations. O’Connell is now seeking to have Weaver’s original sentence revoked, potentially leading to a four-year prison term in the state penitentiary.
Facing Justice
Following his arrest in Miami, Weaver was transferred to the Louisville Metro Department of Corrections. His next court date is scheduled for January 6, where he will face the consequences of his long history of evasion.
For Weaver, what began as a decade of dodging responsibilities has culminated in a legal battle he can no longer escape. As O’Connell puts it, this case serves as a stark reminder of the consequences for parents who neglect their obligations.
