Prosecutors say Cleary stalked and later assaulted Shannon Keeler in her dorm room after a party.
Keeler immediately reported the incident, underwent a rape kit, and provided witness statements, but no progress was made on the case for years.
The case gained attention again when Keeler received a disturbing message from Cleary’s Facebook account that reportedly said, “So I raped you.” Investigators traced the account back to Cleary, which reignited the investigation.
Keeler expressed relief that the case is moving forward but criticized the lengthy process. “No survivor should have to go public to get justice,” she said.
Cleary now faces sexual assault charges in Pennsylvania as prosecutors work to hold him accountable.
