Officials later identified the victims as 6-year-old Nalani Ella Ervins
and 25-year-old Jaiden Samaria Marquis Newbolt.
The driver,
23-year-old Jourdan Hudson, is now facing several charges, including
neglect of a dependent resulting in death, neglect of a dependent resulting in serious
bodily injury, reckless homicide, and another count of neglect of a dependent. Each charge
carries a $47,500 bond.
Crash Details
- Police say Hudson was driving more than 100 mph while heading to a birthday party.
- Investigators believe the car reached speeds up to 106 mph seconds before the crash.
- Five people were in the car, and three of them were children between ages 4 and 6
who reportedly weren’t in car seats.
- Initially, Hudson claimed her sister was driving, but admitted four days later that
she was actually behind the wheel.
- Hudson told officers that she got lost while trying to follow another car, and was
arguing with her sister. She crashed while attempting to turn around on the highway.
A hearing date has not yet been set. Both the Allen County Sheriff’s Department and the
Allen County Courthouse have not provided any updates.
