A Mississippi woman has been arrested for allegedly shooting and killing her estranged husband outside a courthouse.

Authorities say Tanya shot her estranged husband, James Saucier, outside the Pearl River County Chancery Courthouse in Poplarville around 12:15 p.m. on Tuesday, December 17. James was pronounced dead at the scene.
James’ attorney, Don Rafferty, told WLOX News that the shooting happened shortly after the couple had finished their divorce proceedings. “I was handling some paperwork when things went wrong,” Rafferty said.
Tanya’s attorney, State Representative Jansen Owen, reportedly subdued her after the shooting, according to WLOX News.
Court records show that James was facing charges of aggravated assault and domestic violence after allegedly shooting Tanya. He was scheduled to go to trial in March 2025.
“I wish they could have worked out their problems in a peaceful way,” James’ brother-in-law, Wordie Carroll, told WVUE-TV.
