A witness on police body camera footage said they saw a car hit a woman in a pink shirt and saw her body fly through the air. They didn’t see the second woman get hit.
King was charged with several felonies, including driving under the influence (DUI) causing serious injuries and reckless driving causing serious injuries.
Police said witnesses saw King’s car speeding before it hit the two women on the sidewalk. The car then crashed into a parking sign and a payment kiosk before stopping.
Police body camera footage shows King crying at the scene and asking about the injured women. One of the women, McGovern, was seriously injured and put in a coma after trying to push the other woman, Meyers, out of the way.
An officer told King that the women were in serious condition. King responded that she was scared and that her mother was probably scared too.
Three hours later, while being transported by police, King asked for an update on the victims. The officer told her they were still in critical condition.
Police smelled alcohol on King’s breath at the scene. Breath tests showed her blood alcohol content was twice the legal limit.
She pleaded no contest to the charges and was sentenced to 58 months (almost five years) in prison, followed by probation.
