Investigators say the children vanished after their mother, 34, stopped taking her mental health medication.
She allegedly left her apartment, and the children stopped attending school.
Authorities traced them from Denver, Colorado, to London, England, then to the island of Jersey in the English Channel.
From there, the mother took the children to a remote fishing village in Iceland, which is over 2,500 miles away from Jersey.
Icelandic authorities eventually located the siblings at a motel in Reykjavik, where they were found safe. They are now under the care of Icelandic social services until they can be reunited with trusted family members.
Meanwhile, their mother has been hospitalized and will return to the United States once she recovers. It is unclear whether she will face any criminal charges.
