A 19-year-old Texas woman named Genesis Monita will receive a multimillion-dollar award after claiming she was seriously burned by overly hot barbecue sauce from Bill Miller Bar-B-Q Enterprises.

Her attorney, Lawrence Morales, said the restaurant heated the sauce to 189 degrees, which is higher than the 135-degree guideline set by the state. He also noted there was a similar incident at the same restaurant two years ago.
The defense argued that Bill Miller’s policy only requires the sauce to be at least 165 degrees, not capped at that temperature. They also claimed Monita knew the sauce was served hot and had eaten it many times before. However, the jury sided with Monita, determining that the restaurant was primarily responsible for her injuries.
