A Pennsylvania man, Daniel Pierson, spent over a month in jail after being falsely accused of trying to kidnap and assault a 20-year-old woman in a supermarket parking lot.
The accusations, made by Anjela Borisova Urumova, turned out to be completely fabricated... Continue reading here ▶
On Thursday, Urumova pleaded guilty to several charges related to her false claims.
The False Accusation
In April 2024, Urumova reported to police that Pierson attacked her in the parking lot of a Redner’s supermarket in Middletown Township.
She claimed he pulled her pants down and hit her in the face. Urumova even had a cut on her lip to support her story.
Police began an investigation, collecting surveillance footage and reviewing Urumova’s cellphone records. However, inconsistencies in her story soon became apparent.
The Truth Comes Out
When confronted, Urumova admitted that her claims were entirely made up.
She revealed that the cut on her lip was from an unrelated incident at home when her grandmother accidentally hit her with a plastic object. Urumova later used this injury to fabricate the assault story.
Shockingly, Urumova confessed that she had specifically targeted Pierson, describing his vehicle—a dark blue Ford F-150 with a “thin blue line” sticker and dents—because she had seen him before and found him “creepy.”
The Impact on Daniel Pierson
Pierson was arrested and charged with multiple felonies based on Urumova’s accusations.
He spent 31 days in jail before the investigation revealed the truth, and all charges against him were dropped. Despite his release, Pierson endured unnecessary trauma and reputational damage.
Urumova’s Guilty Plea and Charges
Urumova has pleaded guilty to the following charges:
- False alarm to an agency of public safety
- Tampering with or fabricating physical evidence
- Two counts of filing false reports
- Three counts of unsworn falsification to authorities
A judge has delayed her sentencing to conduct a presentence investigation.
Moving Forward
This case highlights the severe consequences of false accusations, not only for the wrongfully accused but also for public trust in legitimate reports.
Pierson’s wrongful imprisonment serves as a reminder of the importance of thorough investigations before making arrests.
