A mother from Minnesota received a light jail sentence after admitting to sexually abusing two boys in a hotel during a hockey tournament. At the time, she was on a “staycation” with her husband and two children.
Allison Schardin, 39, was sentenced to two weekends in jail, with five days already served, and 200 hours of community service, according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. She will also be registered as a predatory offender for 10 years. Prosecutors had requested eight months of jail time... Continue reading here ▶
In October, Schardin pleaded guilty to third-degree criminal sexual conduct. She admitted to entering the boys’ hotel room, telling them she needed to escape her abusive husband, and engaging in sexual acts with them.
Prosecutors stressed the lasting harm caused to the victims. The boys endured bullying, exclusion, and emotional trauma. Both were suspended from their hockey team, which later canceled the rest of the season.
One victim, a talented player, was rejected by other teams, while the other quit hockey for a while but eventually returned.
The state argued that Schardin’s actions were deliberate. She manipulated the boys by sharing personal problems and taking advantage of their vulnerability. Prosecutors also noted that if the roles were reversed and a man had been the perpetrator, such leniency would likely not have been considered.
The incident began on January 14, 2024, when Schardin approached the boys at a hotel hot tub, discussing her marriage and infidelity. She later exchanged contact information with them and asked to join them in their hotel room.
Once there, she made sexual advances, telling the boys her age and suggesting they go further. One victim felt uncomfortable but didn’t know how to refuse. The next day, Schardin continued to text the boys and even attended their hockey game, making one victim feel uneasy.
After returning to Colorado, Schardin tried to persuade one of the boys not to report the incident. She sent him text messages asking him to keep quiet.
Schardin was arrested on February 1. When questioned by police, she claimed the boys invited her to their room and that she only went to escape her husband. She admitted to sexual contact but insisted she stopped before things went further.
This case highlights the emotional damage caused to the victims and the legal consequences of Schardin’s actions.
