A young woman in Georgia was tragically killed in a brutal dog attack, and the dog’s owner has been charged with involuntary manslaughter.
Deputies arrived at the 3500 block of Ira Road after receiving a call about the attack and found Rogers, who had been severely injured by the dogs. She was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:05 a.m., according to the Coroner’s Office.
Later that day, authorities arrested Charles Blackwell, 55, the primary owner of the dogs, and charged him with involuntary manslaughter. Arrest warrants state that Blackwell caused the death of another person without intending to do so. The dogs reportedly bit Rogers on her face and torso, leading to her death.
As the investigation continues, Rogers’ family and friends are grieving her loss. Her mother, Tameka Harris, expressed her heartbreak, saying, “I didn’t know where she was. Why like that? It’s such a painful death. In my mind, I can just hear her saying, ‘Help me.’”
A GoFundMe page has been created to help cover funeral costs. Yashaka Brigham, who set up the fundraiser, described Rogers, affectionately called Lu Lu, as someone with a kind heart. “She was always thinking of others.
She had such a beautiful soul, and all she wanted to do was to become successful. Sadly, on her way to school, she was mauled to death by angry dogs. It hurts so badly to know that this is how she spent her last moments.”
The page also noted that Rogers had a love for animals despite this tragic incident.
It is not yet clear if Charles Blackwell has an attorney to speak on his behalf.
