Suspects Wanted by Police
Burden is wanted for first-degree murder, firing a gun to incite fear, and other charges, while Campbell is wanted for helping him flee the scene.
After the shooting, both suspects ran away, leaving many local residents worried about their safety during the busy holiday shopping season.
What Happened
Police reported that the suspects were targeting two individuals near the Woodforest Bank inside the Walmart. Olson, who was also in line, was hit by a stray bullet during the chaos.
Shoppers inside the store captured the terrifying scene on video. Cellphone footage recorded at least six gunshots ringing out near the bank.
Witnesses Share Their Experience
One shopper, Kayleann Brooke, shared the video online and described the fear she felt during the shooting.
“The scariest thing I have ever experienced! With all the mass shootings happening, I thought my life was over. I’m so thankful to be safe and that my children weren’t with me. My heart goes out to the victim’s family,” she wrote on Facebook.
Another shopper, Steven Rumsey, told local news that Olson appeared to be trying to escape when she was hit.
“When he started shooting, the lady ran in front of him,” Rumsey said.
Community Reactions
Lumberton Police confirmed Olson was checking out when the gunfire erupted and she was fatally struck.
“As gunshots were fired, the victim, who was waiting in line, was struck and killed,” the department wrote on Facebook.
City Councilman John Cantey Jr. expressed the community’s fear and grief following the incident.
“Citizens are afraid, especially during the holiday season,” Cantey said. “Our prayers go out to the victim’s family during this tragic time.”
The suspects remain at large as police continue their investigation.
