The boy was injured when a bullet hit him. In a 911 call obtained by local news station WOIO, the boy’s mother can be heard asking for help urgently while comforting her son, who was crying in the background.
Emergency responders arrived and took the boy to a nearby hospital. Police stated that he is in “serious but stable condition.” According to WOIO, the boy had surgery and was later moved to intensive care.
Officials believe the shooting happened in an upstairs apartment. A gun was fired, and a bullet went through the floor, hitting the boy in the apartment below.
Police searched the upstairs unit but found no one home. However, they did discover a bullet hole in the floor.
“The investigation is ongoing,” Akron Police said. Detectives are working to find anyone responsible for or involved in the shooting.
