What Happened
According to the Zagreb Police Department, a 19-year-old entered the school around 9:50 a.m. and attacked people in a classroom using a sharp object. A teacher and several students were injured, and sadly, a 7-year-old girl died. The attacker was detained and is now under police watch.
Videos shared by local news showed children running out of the school and a medical helicopter landing on the campus. The incident has been described as a “knife attack” by multiple news outlets.
Injuries and Medical Update
Croatia’s Health Minister, Irena Hrstić, said five people were injured in the attack—three children and two adults. Two boys, aged 7 and 11, suffered stab wounds and were taken to the hospital. Thankfully, they are now stable, but doctors are still monitoring their condition.
The attacker and the children’s teacher were also hospitalized for treatment.
Government Response
Prime Minister Plenkovic confirmed that the injured were taken to various hospitals in Zagreb for medical care. He added that Health Minister Hrstić is visiting the hospitals to check on their recovery. Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident to understand what led to the attack.
