Gilbertson had previously allowed Roush to stay with her temporarily to help her get back on her feet but had reportedly asked her to leave before the incident. Authorities claim Roush gave Gilbertson a fatal dose of fentanyl, causing her death.
Police were called to Gilbertson’s mobile home on November 6 after her property manager noticed unusual activity, including her car being parked differently and her dogs barking excessively. When officers entered the home, they found Gilbertson’s body stuffed inside a freezer. Roush and another person present in the home were taken into custody.
Prosecutors say Roush kept Gilbertson’s body in the freezer for about two weeks. Roush reportedly told police she found Gilbertson dead after taking drugs and put her body in the freezer because she didn’t know what to do.
Evidence presented includes text messages, witness accounts, and drug tests. Roush’s wife told police she saw Roush give Gilbertson drugs, which were believed to be fentanyl-laced cocaine.
Tests on substances found in the home revealed fentanyl and lidocaine. Toxicology reports showed Gilbertson had 400 nanograms of fentanyl in her system—200 times the lethal dose.
Roush remains in custody as the investigation continues.
